ITC Limited is Australia's largest hardwood plantation forestry
manager, with almost 150,000 plantation hectares under management across
all mainland states. Following its merger with the Neville Smith Group (NSG)
in September 2004, ITC is now also the country's largest timber
processor, and the second largest integrated forestry company listed on
ASX, with a current market capitalisation of approximately $260 million.
ITC's plantations division began offering managed investment scheme
(MIS) interests in 1992 and now manages 47 different plantation
projects. Throughout the last decade, the Group has invested
significantly in research and development, particularly genetics and
silviculture. ITC has one of Australia's leading advanced-generation
breeding programs and has established extensive trials across the states
in which it operates. The recent outcomes from this research will
support ITC to achieve future operational gains.
ITC's timber
processing division is a producer of quality timber for domestic and
export markets. With production capacity to receive more than 250,000
cubic metres of logs in Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales, it
specialises in the processing of native re-growth eucalypts and has
experience in harvesting, processing and marketing woodchips to paper
and pulp mills in the Asia Pacific region.
ITC is also a
joint venture partner with Forest Enterprises Australia Limited (FEA) in
the Tasmanian Fibre processing facility at Bell Bay in Tasmania. ITC
holds a 23.6% interest in FEA, a company that has similar operations to
ITC.
Combined with leading in-house forestry, research and development,
genetics, sawmilling and timber processing expertise, and global
certification, ITC Limited is well positioned in the Australian
forestry sector going forward
