Gunns’ 130 year heritage gives the Company a keen
appreciation of Tasmania’s unique natural resources and the need to
protect and support them. The Tasmanian community also sets high
standards for the preservation and sustainable development of these
resources, with more than 40% of its area protected in National Parks,
World Heritage Areas and other reserves.
The Company’s Environmental Management System is
externally certified to ISO 14001 – the international benchmark for
world’s best practice in environmental management. Gunns has also been
accredited as complying with the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS). The
AFS has recently been recognised internationally under the PEFC – a
stringent international certification system for forest management
practices.
Gunns manages over 100,000 hectares of privately held
plantation including approximately 10,000 hectares on a joint venture
basis with its customers. Through investment programs like GPL’s Woodlot
Project the Company is advancing confidently towards expanding the
plantation resource needed to sustain its long-term needs.
